Unter dem Asphalt
liegt der Wald

The collective film project Unter dem Asphalt liegt der Wald (Beneath the Asphalt, the Forest) is an exploration of lived solidarity, non-linear time and the search for home. A field of experimentation in which powerful narratives are challenged and relationships are renegotiated – our relationships to each other, to ourselves and to non-human life.

About us and the project

We, Eileen and Elena, met in Lützerath in the late summer of 2022. We both lived there for a while and worked on two different yet quite similar research projects: one artistic and one scientific. During hours of conversations on tree house roofs, at the edges of coal mines and around campfires at night, we noticed how we approached similar questions in different, zet complimentary ways. The idea of a joint project quickly emerged. Initially buried by the hustle and bustle of the eviction and other life questions, we recently began to foreground this project again.
