Autonomous Struggle, Infrastructure Sabotage, and Propaganda: A political ecology of media manipulation in the case of Lützerath
This visual intervention is part of the special issue on Infrastructure Sabotage as Future Making at the Journal of Human Geography. This piece demonstrates the connections between corporate-state propaganda and anti-mining struggles through four film-scenes that document the defense of Lützerath. By embedding these scenes within a theory of propaganda, this essay demonstrates and seeks to explain the deceptive communication entailed in dominant media narratives, which legitimize further mining and Lützerath’s eviction in January 2023 through de-contextualizing Lützerath’s defense.
